When the client said these words to me, my first thought was, “Oh, this will be a quick little repair job.” Then I was sent the picture. “No Matt, the base is destroyed. So what can be done about it?” In this instance it wasn’t building a whole piece, just replacing what was broken. The clients shared with me the fact that this was meant to be a table passed down to one of their kids, who apparently fight over “who gets the table” at most family get togethers. This table carried memories of their kids first meals, laughter over Christmas Eve Chinese food, and friends who have become family breaking bread together. Simply put, this wasn’t a table to be replaced. It was a memory to be repaired. So, what could be done about it?
